KAMCHATKA ON LINE

The Country:

Kamchatka is without any exaggeration the most spectacular region in Russia. It is one of the links of the volcanic chain around the Pacific Ocean. With the length of the peninsula at 1200 km and 450 km at its widest point, the area is 470.000 km. It is a land of geysers and hot mineral springs, active volcanoes and remote mountain valleys with lush vegetation. Our tours will give you a unique opportunity to spend a marvelous time in this enchanted country.

Landscape/climate:

Lowland alternating with mountain chains stretching out from North to South give Kamchatka the contours of a gigantic fish. The climate is characterized by a rare combination of different climatic zones: temperate seaside maritime, sharp-continental, Arctic etc. There are more then 160 active and extinct volcanoes on the peninsula which are of great interest from both a scientific and purely touristic point of view. The volcanic calderas, stone sculpture “parks” and lakes in craters-all of these are still in a pure state of primordial purity and cleanliness.

Scientists have recorded 94(!!!) kinds of hot and cold mineral spring water possessing medical benefits, the sources of which are in ecologically unspoilt locations.

Flora and fauna are very rich. Beside numerous rivers, waterfalls and lakes Kamchatka has enormous reserves of fresh water. There are 5 species of Pacific salmon, and many different species of trout come to spawn in the rivers of Kamchatka. There are plenty of water-fowl on the lakes; an abundance of brown bears and other fur-bearing animals in the forests, and reindeer on the tundra. In the North of the peninsula one can find the indigenous people of Kamchatka -the Koryaks, the Itelmen, the Chukchies, the Evens. They still keep their culture and original way of life intact. The customs and Applied arts of the indigenous people of Kamchatka are fascinating for the Ethno-Cultural tourist. Kamchatka is remote from the big industrial cities and transportational routes, and is sparsely inhabited (around 400.000 people, less than 1 person for 1 km2 (0.4 mi.2), with 250.000 of them living in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - the capital of the peninsula). Kamchatka's sea-port and air-port have been adjusted for international communication purposes recently. This provides safe and easy opportunities to visit exciting Kamchatka.
